If You Own it....take Pride

The ownership of the eportfolio process is so important to the learner because he/she takes pride during the development.   When do we take ownership? When we believe that it is not someone else's responsibility but ours.  Ownership entails taking pride in what I deliver.  I also need to place value in the quality of my work.  That is the reason that I need to continue to revise and improve my eportfolio as often as possible.

When feeling a sense of ownership about something, it can bring a sense of commitment because that item belongs to me.  I think that if the professor would had given us a template to follow for our eportfolio, I would not had felt that it was a total ownership for me.  During my readings, someone asked that when was the last time I took a rental car to the car wash.  Most likely never, unless I am driving a bride to be to the service and I want it to go nice for the pictures.  Since I do not own the rental car, there is no pride in ownership.  During this process, I am not relying on others for answers since I am seeking my own goals.

According to Watters (2015), most schools allow student's work to exist only inside a learning management system and cannot be accessed once the semester is over.  Therefore, the students might not feel that they own it 100%.  Therefore, if students know that the eportfolio will follow them throughout the remaining of their school years, they will most likely put 100% effort during the development process.  Kids today rush through projects that will be graded and never seen again.  But if they know that is will be an on-going project, they will put their pride into it which might eventually assist them for future employment or college .
