GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR UNITS 1, 2 &3

Course Goal: Students will apply constructivist learning theories and instructional design principles in the development and delivery of an online course utilizing significant learning environments through selected course management tools.

Learning Goals: Foundational - Learners will apply constructivist learning theories, instructional design principles, components of the 3 column table, and UbD principles to an online course they develop.

Application - Learners will be able to implement and continue the management of course delivery in an online environment.

Human Dimenstion/Caring - Learners will be able to recognize their own teaching style based on learning theories and epistemologies to ensure success in an online environment.

Module Objectives: After completing this module, learners will be able to determine teaching style as well as discuss and apply constructivist learning theory to the development of online courses. After completing this module, learners will be able to determine the acceptable evidence that students have mastered the concepts in the course they have developed. Learners will also be able to determine the learning experiences and instruction necessary for learning to occur as they enter course materials and develop an outline for the first 50% of their course.
Enter a detailed outline of the first 50% of your course using the space you need:

Unit 1:

This unit will be covered during from August 16, 2018 through August 24th. During the Professional Development days, we will define the meaning of Blended Learning. The team will view videos on the Blended Learning model. At the first meeting, they will work on a KWL chart in small group setting. Homework consisting of viewing more videos and reading articles will be assigned for them to complete at home.

Unit 2:
Our training will continue during a Professional Development day which is August 22nd. Learners will work in groups to discuss videos/articles that were assigned for homework. This sharing time will consist of the team assuring that all learners understand the Blended Learning Model. Learners will study at home TEKS 6.8 C--The student will calculate average speed using distance and time measurements. They will attend the second meeting with a lesson they designed for this TEKS integrating technology.

Unit 3:

The team will discuss the Technology Standards that will be integrated with the Science lessons in the UbD plan. We will also discuss the roles of collaborative learning members. Teachers will learn how to grade students individually and as a group during collaborative learning activities. Learners will continue to complete homework assignments and be prepared to share what they learned in the following meeting. The learner will use the lesson plan they designed the week before to include how students will solve problems by using intervention strategies in collaborative groups.

Planning Questions:

6. If you have been working as a collaborative team, how do you feel about teaching an online or blended course independently?
I have worked as a collaborative team for 20+ years. Therefore, I strongly feel that I could teach both an online or blended course. After saving countless resources, I will be able to use them for this course. The teachers will be able to share notes, ideas and resources to assist each other with my help. I am sharing an article that discusses 9 reasons collaboration produces better project outcomes---https://www.liquidplanner.com/blog/9-reasons-collaboration-produces-better-project-outcomes.
7. How will you ensure the success of your learners in this course?
During the course, I will be checking that all learners are comprehending the objectives to ensure that they all succeed. I am also including an article that can assist you in ensuring student success and engagement--https://natashakenny.wordpress.com/2011/08/19/three-strategies-to-ensure-student-success-and-engagement/
There are various that I can identify if my learners have reached their goal. One way is to constantly conduct classroom observations to determine if they are implementing the strategies correctly with success. Another way is to monitor each student's progress throughout the year. Students learning growth should be increasing which one should be able to view on their 3 weeks progress reports. Grades/test scores should be rising and not declining.
8. What do you want learners to know and be able to do when they have completed your course?
I want my learners to be able to implement the blended learning strategies correctly and with success. They should be able to use the strategies with all students and determine which strategy best works for the student. Teachers should also be able to modify any strategy, if needed, and not wait until we meet again as a group. They should be able to ask for assistance ASAP. I am hoping that they will in turn, assist in training other teachers that were not trained by the pioneer group.
9. How will you determine that they have reached the goal and objectives you have set?
There are various that I can identify if my learners have reached their goal. One way is to constantly conduct classroom observations to determine if they are implementing the strategies correctly with success. Another way is to monitor each student's progress throughout the year. Students learning growth should be increasing which one should be able to view on their 3 weeks progress reports. Grades/test scores should be rising and not declining. They will also be able to demonstrate the technology and Science standards aligned with the concepts that are stated in the UbD plan.
10. What resources will your learners need for your course?
First, everyone needs to be able to access a technology device at home. If they do not have access to one, they can checkout a tablet from campus. Second, I will place all videos and articles in a folder. Third, I will place 6th Grade Science TEKS and Technology Standards in another folder.
11. Where will you put them?
The folders will be placed in the course. They will also received copies of the 6th Grade Science TEKS Technology Standards in a folder for them to keep in their classroom. The folders mentioned in question #10 will be placed in a USB for each learner to keep.
